He is instead led by the innate characteristics of his chosen materials, producing works that exemplify what he calls their ‘hard stones’, in reference to aspects of each material that are impossible to counteract, dilute or hide. These material truths are revealed throughout his singular oeuvre, whereby through a process of reduction, extraneous detail is stripped away from each piece and results in artworks bound in objectivity.
