Ane Christensen Negative Zig Zag Bowl

This bowl is from Ane Christensen’s ‘Negative’ series which explores optical illusion and negative space within a form. The translucent geometrical elements created by hand sawing and manipulating the negative space within the bowls surface create a three-dimensionality to the otherwise plain and functional bowl. Made from a single sheet of copper, the simple, heavy and calm bowl form is ‘interrupted’ by visually complex, open and delicate structures. The interaction of the carved geometric forms across the body of the work produces an unexpected dimensionality and tactile effect. The essence is in the dialogue, tension or collision that happens in that meeting point.
