In her work, Charlotte Perriand closely aligned her belief in the power of design for social change. She developed functional living spaces in the spirit that better design helps in creating a better society. Low Berger, a walnut wood stool pair, was inspired by the shepherd life in the Alps, she focused on student housing and finding solutions for small spaces. She continued to develop her inspiration for the alpine way of life by working on a long-running project to design a series of ski resorts in Savoie.  Perriand has created different types of stools, varying in height and colour.

Artist Biography

Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) was a French architect and designer who aimed to created functional living spaces. Perriand followed the ethos that better design created better society. From 1927 to 1937, Perriand collaborated with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret to design the collection ‘Équipment de la maison’ at the Salon D’Automne in 1929. She travelled widely around the world, including to Vietnam and Japan, and collaborated with artists such as Jean Prouvé. She returned to France in the 1940s to design the Méribel and Les Arcs ski resorts.
