Ignazio Gardella was a pioneer of Italian Rationalism, favoring geometry and functionality over ornamentation. This aesthetic is present in his buildings, furniture, and light fixtures alike. Drawing from technological and aesthetic advances established by the International Style, Gardella employed steel and glass to achieve his signature linear forms. The Digamma lounge set was designed in 1957, manufactured by Gavina, and became a renowned piece, also known as a 'loveseat'. The backrests are adjustable using a clever brass notch system.
