This unique wall lamp was made by Serge Mouille for his studio in 1963 when he moved to Monthiers, France. This work is monumental in size and has uniquely exceptional provenance, as it was conceived for the artist's personal space and use.
Serge Mouille’s Large Lamp with 6 Rotating Arms (1963) follows his signature kinetic sculptural aesthetic, evoking a sense of movement in space. This lamp, with six rotatable arms, sensually curved shades, and bent metal arms, feature the pared-down elegance made famous in Mouille’s designs.
Mouille designed a series of angular, insect-like wall-mounted and standing lamps and smaller, more curved wall sconces. His works are characterized by their sculptural aesthetic by eschewing the complexity of Italian models, which were becoming popular in the market during the 1950s. The well-renowned designs from this era were shown mainly at the Steph Simon Gallery in Paris.
His work was highly sought after by architects and designers, and he received commissions from the likes of Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand. Mouille's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. He passed away in 1988, leaving behind a legacy of innovative and timeless designs that continue to inspire and influence designers today.

Artist Biography
Serge Mouille (1922-1988) is an artist recognised for his significant contributions to the field of lighting design. A graduate of the School of Applied Arts in Paris, Mouille received a master silversmith diploma and worked in the studio of his teacher, silversmith, and sculptor Gilbert LaCroix. Later, Mouille established his metalworking studio, initially focussing on commissions for handrails, chandeliers, and wall sconces.
