Ingrid Donat’s Console Koumba PM (2018) highlights the artist’s unique treatment of bronze; Donat constantly explores the boundaries of the medium with precision and intentionality. In style, shape, and patterning, the piece is rooted in the heritage of the French Surrealists, tribal scarification detailing, and the classical decorative tradition at large. Donat’s use of the storied lost-wax casting method speaks to her engagement with the distant history of her medium, while the specificity of the marks allowed by the process reveals the hand of the artist and involves a more modernist discourse. Maarten Baas’ Grandfather Clock The Son (2022) continues the artist’s performative regression towards childhood. A character acted out by Baas’ dictates time from within the functional timepiece, drawing and redrawing the hands onto the inside of the clock face every minute. Unlike the traditional brass bodywork of previous Grandfather Clocks in his Real Time series, The Son’s wooden planks are reminiscent of a treehouse, a further signifier of Baas’ playful signature style.

Vincenzo De Cotiis’ DC1920 Coffee Table (2019) and DC1626B Sofa Black Mohair L330 (2016) organically blend past and present. The artist invites signs of age and use; accepting the perfectly imperfect, he refers to his works as living pieces—timeless studies of the patina of life. The DC1920 Coffee Table features fiberglass and cast brass that merge into a sleek architectural geometry, while the DC1626B Sofa Black Mohair L330 underscores De Cotiis’s focus on the interplay of texture. The works highlight the binaries inherent in the artist’s practice, mixing new and reclaimed materials; refined and industrial sensibilities; and polished and raw finishes.
