Line Vautrin created a series of Soleil mirrors, that primarily vary in size. Soleil à Pointes n°3 presents a large crown formed by two alternating sunrays inlaid with orange and gold mirrors. This form of Soleil symbolizes heat, dryness, and embodies Vautrin’s preferred figure - the sun - while presenting the contrastingly cold silver glass surface of the central mirror. The mirror frame features a very rare colour palette in Vautrin’s work.

Artist Biography

Line Vautrin was born in Paris, France, in 1913 to a family of metalworkers. Mastering the trade at an early age, Vautrin left school at age 15 to pursue metal craft full time. In 1937, she secured a booth at the International Exhibition in Paris, and her jewellery began to receive widespread recognition. She quickly opened a boutique in the heart of Paris to offer her creations to a select clientele and famous decorators.
