Martin Székely describes his Heroic Shelves as 'a builder’s dream. He has constructed the sturdy and rigid structure from the bare minimum requirements necessary, arriving at an aluminium honeycomb structure of orthogonal planes glued at each intersection to fix the shelves.

Aluminium honeycomb emphasizes all the original characteristics of aluminium that make it such a versatile material to work with. Its lightness and strength determine that it is a highly functional metal, with pre-existing qualities that are then appropriated by the artist.
