Design Miami. Paris 2025 Nacho Carbonell × Léa Mestres

Nacho Carbonell is known for his tactile approach to sculpture which plays with textures, experimental techniques and natural materials. He sees objects as living organisms that come alive and surprise you with their behaviour. In the sculptural lighting piece Floor Lamp Concrete Base 7, the Spanish artist applies a special type of plaster into a metal mesh, creating a work whose shapes resemble hybrid forms that merge organic and mineral elements. The mesh structure is illuminated from the inside, so that a natural, warm light diffuses through it.

Combining Japanese and French minimalist aesthetics, the design duo Aki+Arnaud Cooren integrates subtle references to nature into everyday objects. Ishigaki Lamp #33 Amber II Rose Copper is from a series inspired by the experience of freediving off the coast of Ishigaki island, south of Japan. A metal and epoxy-carbon base supports a bamboo stem and a fixed linen lampshade dyed in subtle shades of amber. The light is projected upwards to produce a mesmerising shadow on the ceiling, representative of the circle of sunlight on the ocean’s surface as viewed from underwater.

The booth also features work by Maarten Baas, Wendell Castle, Vincenzo De Cotiis, Ingrid Donat, Vincent Dubourg, Gareth Mason, Léa Mestres and Giacomo Ravagli. Together, the exhibited pieces reflect Carpenters Workshop Gallery’s commitment to the intersection between form and function in modern and contemporary design, celebrating the most innovative approaches to material, medium and concept.
